September 22, 2022.  6:00 pm - 7:30 pm. Purchase College, Humanities Theater.

David Nasaw joins us for a lecture on his book, The Last Million: Europe’s Displaced Persons from World War to Cold War.

Professor Nasaw investigates what happened to a quarter of a million Holocaust survivors who wound up for years in quasi-incarceration in Germany because no nation, including the United States, would provide them refuge. Congressional legislation in June 1948 which allowed the immigration of Europe’s displaced persons wound up benefitting thousands of Nazi collaborators and war criminals but not 90% of the Jewish survivors.

Masks are required.

Individuals requiring accommodations for equal access to this event should contact HUM.Jewish.Studies.Program@purchase.edu a minimum of 5 business days prior to the event.
