7:00 PM - 9:00 PMTemple Shaaray Tefila Bedford Corners, NYAJC Abu Dhabi Director, Amb. Marc Sievers will share his insights on the future of the Abraham Accords & its prospects for peace following the October 7 massacre.
Following 25 years of quiet diplomacy between American Jewish Committee (AJC) and Arab leaders across the region, AJC opened the first office of a global Jewish organization in an Arab or Muslim-majority country in 2021. Ambassador Sievers’ leadership and advocacy has strengthened and deepened ties to promote the Abraham Accords.
The Israel-Hamas war complicated Israel's relations with Arab countries that had begun to formally recognize and build alliances with the Jewish state. Hamas initiated its attack just as Saudi Arabia was thought to be on the brink of joining the Abraham Accords. As Israel responded, tensions in the Arab world escalated and the hope of the Abraham Accords to bring peace in the Middle East dimmed.
