Adult Education/Book Club
Everyone is welcome at the Women's Torah Study Group that meets Friday Mornings (10:00- Noon). Looking for a good discussion, an understanding of Torah or a nosh, come join us. Whether you have read the book or want a night out, Sisterhood Book Club provides an evening for interesting discussions that, if you have not read the book, will encourage you to do so.
College Liaison
Although away at school, our college aged children are close to our hearts. Let them know it by providing your child's school address. Sisterhood sends packages to our college students for the holidays.
Community Service/Social Action
Whether it is our neighbors locally or in Israel, Sisterhood is involved through our Helping Hands program, the Interfaith Pantry (operated out of the Boys and Girls Club), the Emergency Shelter and bi-annual Tag Sales. For our BT community, we are the helping hands for our USYers, Purimspiel, Shabbat A La Mode and synagogue-wide events.
Israeli Affairs
Wouldn’t it be fun to experience the music that Israeli millennials listen to? What else is going on in Israel? It is important that we are educated about everyday life in Israel and events that affect how Israel is viewed in our country.
Judaica Shop
Located just opposite the main office, it is the perfect spot to find the gift to welcome a new baby, celebrate a bar mitzvah or wedding or let someone know they are special. Support the shop and volunteer to staff the shop during Kulanu Learning and Nursery School hours. Open two weekdays, Sundays and by appointment.
Membership
Reaching out to the women of our BT community is what membership is all about. It is the diversity of our members that help us to expand our horizons. Nothing is better than an evening out schmoozing and shopping at our November Membership Event and Boutique.
Mitzvah Needles
Knitting with the objective of helping others is the ultimate heart warmer. Don’t know how to knit? Our Mitzvah Needles group would love to teach you. Once you learn, you can do this at your leisure and know that people are so grateful for your creation.
Programming
Moms Night Out, Paint Night, Well Being, Self-Defense and a host of other entertaining events brought to you by the efforts of the Programming committee. This is an opportunity to exercise creativity and make new friends.
Shalach Manot
There are three Mitzvot we are required to fulfill during Purim. Hear the Megillah being read. Give aid to people in need. Give Shalach Manot, treats to friends and family. Well, Sisterhood can’t go to the reading of Megillah Esther for you, however, we can help people in need and give Shalach Manot! So much fun is had as we pack goodies for our BT community.
Shiva
Sisterhood understands that being part of a Jewish community means supporting our BT members when they are experiencing the loss of a family member. Our committee helps families to prepare their home for shiva and provides a dinner during this difficult time.
Sisterhood Shabbat
The most anticipated Sisterhood event of the year as the women of Sisterhood bring song, ruach, and creativity to our Shabbat services. For some, it is the first time to participate in a service and be welcomed on the bimah. Whether it’s Hebrew or English, an Aliyah, a Torah or Haftorah reading, opening/closing the ark, or sitting amongst your sisters, everyone has a place. It is our opportunity to share with our children and families the treasure of Jewish learning. Watch the Sisterhood weekly blast for the request form.
Tag Sales
Held in November and May and formerly known as the rummage sales, these events are vital in assisting our neighbors in the surrounding communities. It is an easy way to meet people while staffing the sale.
Torah Fund
Sisterhood, as part of the Women’s League for Conservative Judaism, supports the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) in NYC. Each year, we hold a fund raising event to publicize the seminary’s role in the education of our religious leaders. We also have the opportunity to honor one of our sisters for her contribution to furthering Jewish values. Catch up with friends in the Westchester/Rockland community.
