Safety

The safety of all participants is of primary importance. No one may act in any manner that is dangerous or hazardous to their own physical and emotional safety, or the physical and emotional safety of anyone else. Violence or threats of violence will not be tolerated.

Bet Torah programs are safe space where everyone can relax and be fully themselves, without fear of being made to feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, or unsafe on account of biological sex, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, cultural background, religious affiliation, age, or physical or mental ability.

Respect

We all have the responsibility to treat each other with caring and respect. The rights and feelings of all program participants must be respected at all times. Conduct disrespecting the rights and feelings of other participants will not be tolerated at any time. Hazing and bullying are unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Hazing is illegal in the state of New York. All participants will be held responsible for their own actions and behavior.

All property rights are to be respected. Any damage to Bet Torah property caused by a participant will be the responsibility of that participant, and financial responsibility will be deferred to the participant's parents or legal guardians.

Participants will respectfully cooperate with staff and adhere to all rules established for the event. Staff will be equally respectful of participants.

Religious Expression

At events, all participants are asked to respectfully observe the standards of Bet Torah. We look forward to learning about your religious customs and traditions that you will bring to our community.

Illegal Conduct

Possession or use of weapons, alcohol, tobacco products, drugs or controlled substances, illegal conduct or gross misconduct, or violation of any civil or criminal law, including, but not limited to those relating to theft or destruction of one’s own or another person’s physical and/or mental integrity are unacceptable. Inappropriate or unwelcome physical contact is not permitted.

Discipline

Violation of any portion of the Code of Conduct will subject the participant to disciplinary measures, including, but not limited to, being barred from participation, being sent home at expense, liability for monetary damages, and suspension from future events and activities. Participant discipline will be enacted in a progressive, respectful, and cumulative manner. Participants have the right to present their version of the relevant events to staff in connection with an incident.
